Unintended Hiatus and Future Plans

I didn’t intend to take a hiatus from Dirty Words Design, but it seems to have happened.

A few things conspired to create this situation: I took a 10-day vacation in March; I quit my job; I’m in the process of dealing with some fun legal negotiations as a company I co-own disentangles some IP from my former employer; I’ve been working on new freelance projects and spending time looking for new opportunities.

So I’ve been busy, and I’m honestly not quite sure when I’ll be back on the videocasting wagon. The remainder of April is shaping up to be busy, and in March I’ll be taking a week to visit Seattle and attend InDesignSecrets Print and ePublishing Conference from May 12th to 14th. I would be delighted to talk to anyone at the show who is a fan (or critic) of Dirty Words Design!

I do hope to release an episode before the Print and ePublishing Conference, and after that show, get back on the wagon of regular-ish releases.

Dirty Words Design is now iPhone & iPod touch Compatible

When I started Dirty Words Design, I thought “bigger is better, within reason.” Then I bought an iPod touch, and I thought “this really sucks that I can’t watch my own episodes on my iPod because they’re too large!”—so I’ve gone back and re-encoded the old episodes to fit on the modern iPods/iPhones. I also tried to adjust the volume to be louder, but it turns out that my equipment just wasn’t up to the task, even though my initial impressions of it were good. I’ll be shopping for new equipment soon, and probably releasing a few more episodes before it arrives.

My responsibilities at my day job just changed — and expanded — and that transition has totally wrecked my videocast time. Combine that with a previously-planned vacation the first week of April, and my schedule is packed right now. I hope to record and release a quick episode this weekend … but I’ve been hoping that for every weekend in March.

While my current goal for episodes is “every other weekend,” I’m afraid that I won’t be releasing an episode this weekend; I’m right at the end of a very important work project and can’t devote time to the videocast until probably next weekend. I’ve picked the topic—it’s a simple one, but it saved my butt on another important project a few years ago—so I’m looking forward to explaining the situation that happened to me, the social problem, and the technical solution.
